Originally Victorian cottages we have kept the original charm of the building while refurbishing to a quality establishment. We offer a choice of splendid cosy rooms making this the perfect place to stay while visiting the city. A relaxed and friendly environment, complemented by the views over the village green and with the city walls of York just a 10 minute walk away.

We look forward to welcoming you to Noir in York. It is perfect to use as your base to explore our splendid cathedral city and the surrounding area. As an added benefit to our guests all the bedrooms are all non smoking and offer a host of extras. They are all en suite, with luxury bathroom fittings and the benefit of large tubs or separate shower stalls. Every room has a colour TV, radio, tea and coffee making facilities and telephone, as well as the luxury of central heating.

Guests can enjoy a wide choice of rooms, including single, twin, double, family and even superior rooms, which enjoy the added luxury of four poster beds. When you are looking for that special weekend away, you wont go wrong with the luxury of a four poster bed to be sure.

We offer a sumptuous English breakfast for you in the morning that is made from fresh ingredients and cooked to you order. Also we encourage our guests to join us in the residents only bar on a evening. You can also dine with us on a evening as our chef cooks you some delights.

We love to keep the warmth of the old cottages alive. In fact, you'll find some genuine 400 year old timbers recovered from the demolition of one of the city's historic streets.

The Noir Hotel offers a unique visitor experience, which we look forward to sharing with you. We can also offer our guests the added security of a small car park (on a first come basis).

Good stuff: Great room, very clean. The minibar and good coffee maker were nice touches. The surrounding area was quite pleasant also.

Bad stuff: Cheesy locks on the door to the room. I didn't feel unsafe without a deadbolt or chain, but many people might. It was a bit of a walk into town. Not a problem for us, but it could be for some.

Overall: Excellent. If we ever return to York, we'll definitely stay here again.

Good stuff: All in all the hotel was very nice.

Bad stuff: The room we stayed in was nice by there were alot of cobwebs hanging in the room and the bathroom floor wasnt clean. The room my kids stopped in was very nice.

Overall: we had a nice stay staff were very nice, and pleasant. when i asked they different things they were very nice and helpful.

Good stuff: Bed was very comftable, free mini bar was a good plus

Bad stuff: Room suffered badly from damp. Overall it was clean, but under the bed had clearly not hovered for sometime. Was woken up early both mornings at 5am by delieveies (room was right by a delivery entrance). Shower was pretty poor and week (scolding hot to freezing from just a fraction of a turn).

Bad stuff: the shower in our room was not even good enough to be called a hairspray - we tried another rooms shower equally as bad not good enough to was my hair - after travelling a hot shower is a must

Good stuff: It was a charming old building, fifteen minutes walk from the centre of York.

Bad stuff: Shower was the attached to the taps on the bath type and did not work properly. There was no plug in the basin. The bathroom floor was dirty, the wallpaper in the bedroom was old and stained and needed replacing. The room was too warm so I opened a window, only to woken at 5am as a heating boiler/generator switched on. The staff/owners appeared harrassed and tho helpful the help seemed strained as if it was a nuisance.

Overall: My main consideration for this hotel is that if it hadn't been in a prime tourist town like York on a major bank holiday weekend I would have begrudged paying the £50 a night I paid for it. I feel it was only worth half that.

Bad stuff: The room was next to a main road which was noisy till around midnight. The in room tea and coffee were not replenished and cups were not cleaned.

Good stuff: The room was clean and tidy. As soon as you walked in it felt like home. The staff were very friendly!

Overall: The outside view of the hotel was not what we were expecting. I had to check that I had come to the right place. Once in side the full character of the building came out. The room was excellent and the breakfast was superb! We both fully enjoyed our stay. The staff were very helpful, nothing was too much bother. I hope to use the hotel again!

Good stuff: 4 Poster Bed. Staff were friendly. Security of car park.

Bad stuff: Perhaps lock car park gates a little later (say 11.00 rather than 10.00pm)

Good stuff: The room was clean and bright with adequate facilities and generally better than expected.

Bad stuff: Reception, though pleasant, was not always available when required. Daily changing of towels would be desirable. Refilling of the coffee/tea tray in the room was not fully carried out after the first day.

Overall: A pleasant cottage style oak beamed dining room for breakfast though, as a result, little natural light. A small cosy bar area but with very limited hours - 6.30pm to 9.30pm. No other facilities. Our room to the front was a little noisy but, as late bedders, the traffic was significantly reduced by the time we turned in. Nice staff though some of the younger ones seemed inexperienced and somewhat uncertain. Overall, good value as a base for York located in a nice area (Clifton) about one mile out of town from the Minster.

Overall: the hotel had a quiet atmosphere but was a nice and friendly place. teh rooms had a dated decor but it was only for a place to stay.

Good stuff: Good breakfast.

Bad stuff: We had a superior room which was small with a shower room but no bath.

Overall: Did not believe the hotel was good value for money. The interior was tired and dated. Our room which was meant to be a superior room was very small and cramped. The ensuit was a very small shower room. We stayed two nights during this time our bed wasn't made or our tea and coffee suplies refreshed. However it was in a good location and the 15min walk along the river into York was very pleasant.

Bad stuff: No Parking

Overall: There was little or no parking available. Had to run out, move the car, feed the machine several times in the evening. The dining room experience was not good. Staff did not speak good English and were not familiar with the dishes being served in particular the desserts. Also it was very hurried ... quick show of menu and dishes whisked away too quickly.

Good stuff: The hotel itself and facilities were of a good standard. The room was slightly on the small side but comfortable.

Bad stuff: The check in staff were rather 'abrupt', after mistaking myself and my partner for somebody else. When corrected they became less abrupt.

Overall: I would rate my stay a 7 out of 10. I do not know whether I would stay at this hotel again or recommend to my friends or family.
