Picture of Grange Hotel

One of the finest hotels in the region, the Grange Hotel offers a memorable experience for diners and residents alike. Steeped in history, and located close to the ancient walls of the beautiful city of York, The Grange offers an unrivalled degree of comfort and hospitality, in an ambiance of classic luxury.

Business and leisure guests will find a warm welcome at The Grange, where every aspect of the hotel has been designed to meet the needs of our business and leisure guests.

We offer 30 spacious bedrooms, all with en suite facilities, including two with glorious fourposters, and one well appointed suite with its own private sitting room.

Each of the rooms has been individually styled, but all offer a high degree of comfort, with double, king size of twin beds. Standard equipment in every room includes telephone with modem, satellite TV, mini bar and room safe.

Since it opened in 1990, The Grange has established an unrivalled reputation for the quality of its food, and both residents and non-residents have a remarkable degree of choice. The Ivy restaurant mixes classic French and modern British recipes, coupled with a carefully selected range of wines from around the world. Dining in the richly decorated Ivy is an experience that has led to the winning of numerous awards and accolades from the major guide books.

Alternatively, we invite you to try some of the freshest fish and seafood in the country - perhaps washed down with a glass (or two!) of chilled champagne, in this unique restaurant with its remarkable murals of York's world famous Knavesmire Racecourse.

We also offer our guests the option of the Grange's Brasserie restaurant. In Regency times these were the original cellars, and during the Second World War saw service as a bomb shelter! Now they have been restored to their former glory, and the high vaulted brickwork creates a lively and informal setting to complement the selection of light gourmet dishes and interesting wines available.

We also offer a wide range of conference and meetings facilities. The library, drawing room and green room are perfect for meetings for up to 50 guests, with a comprehensive level of support available from our highly trained staff.

We look forward to seeing you at The Grange.

Good stuff: We were given an upgrade to the four poster room on the second floor as our internet booking had not regisitered at the hotel for some reason and therefore it took longer to check in. The room was beautiful.

Bad stuff: Fridge in the room did not appear to be working, however, as we did not use the mini bar this did not cause a problem.

Overall: We had a very relaxing two night stay. The bed was extremely comfortable as was the room. Had it not been for the glorious weather during our stay we would have been happy to remain in our room or relax in one of a number of public rooms. There was a good selection on the breakfast menu and the serving staff were very friendly, as were the reception staff. It was only a short walk from the hotel into the centre of York.

Good stuff: Helpful staff, clean and tidy bedroom and public areas, lovely coal fire in lounge, good selection at breakfast.

Bad stuff: Car parking can be difficult if function being held, rooms at front of hotel suffer from some traffic noise although double glazing has been fitted, can hear occupants of rooms either side and squeaky floors from room above.

Overall: Overall this is a very pleasant hotel but rooms have a slightly faded charm. Our room was no smoking but previous occupant had opened the window to smoke and left his cigarette stubs on the window ledge. This meant that the room smelt very slightly of tobacco smoke. The bed was very comfy and the bathroom very clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and overall I would recommend this hotel.

Good stuff: Good hotel, staff, location and food

Bad stuff: none

Overall: I have stayed in many hotels but this one, to my wife and I, was a step up on the rest. The service was very good and the staff genuinely tentative. I would definitely stay at the grange again when visiting york.
