We are a traditional hotel establishment in a lovaly resdentail arera. The location here puts you 11 minutes walk from Micklegate, one of the entrances to the city walls.

Your location when staying with us could not be much better for exploring the city. The area we are in is called Holdaye and it is a resdential area a short walk from the walls and city centre. So you will be within 12 minutes walk of the walls and 15 minutes walk of the city centre. The train station is a similar time on foot from us. Local pubic transport is also available with frequent running buses from just outside on Holgate road.

Holgate is a lovely well sought after location for local residents to live in. The Victorian and Edwardian houses in the area mean a nice stay for you too, in a pleasant and quiet area. There are few things locally that will cause you disturbance on a night during your slumbers. Having said that you can still relax and be entertained in the local pub. The nearest one of these is the Volunteer Arms and it is just around the corner.

We are one of the best value for money hotels in York. Our establishment is renown for cleanliness and the friendliness of owners and staff.

You are welcome to enjoy the gardens in the summer. You may also wish to enjoy a quiet drink with friends at our friendly in-house bar.

We would be very honoured to serve you ourselves, with a number of uncomplicated home-cooked recipes. There are also plenty of restaurants to choose from in the city.

Our aim to make you feel welcome, hoping you will come back again.

Good stuff: main dining area was ok, food was ok and the staff were friendly

Bad stuff: twin room was set apart from man hotel,(although this was not an issue), the room was dirty, bedding was shabby to say the least and the bath/shower was not working very well at all, the plug was broken in bath.

Overall: was cheap enough and the breakfast was nice, but the room and general condition of the hotel was really run down.

Good stuff: Excellent Breakfast - Wait staff. Free parking on premises. Within reasonable walking distance of City Centre. Quiet residential area, yet on main artery ( A59). Well appointed room - en suite.

Bad stuff: TV - very small, no remote, only a few channels, seemed like nothing but BBC. Single room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. ( we're not smokers ). Could use some new mattresses.

Overall: Hotel and rooms were much better than expected. Value for money rating - only fair - Because all of UK idiotically expensive.
