Good stuff: It was clean and walkingdistance to town. Also liked the garden outside the hotel. It was inviting. Staff was serviceminded.
Bad stuff: The room seemed old and worn out. We heared banking (like a door slamming)noises from downstairs day and night. Maybe from the kitchen.
Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: I enjoyed my stay, apart from the fact that the room was not what I expected.

Good stuff: Excellent location, interesting buildings. Superb breakfast. Restaurant great value for well prepared food.
Bad stuff: No lift to get suitcases upstairs.
Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: I would happily return to this hotel. Location is great - within city walls and 10 minute walk to shops, but far enough away from pubs and clubs to be peaceful on a Saturday night. Staff are helpful and hotel restaurant provides quality and value.

Good stuff: It was spotlessly clean.
Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, it is basic accodmodation, but since I wasn't in my room very much - only for sleeping it wasn't a problem. It was very clean, the staff extremely helpful and friendly. I had a good breakfast each day, plenty of choice. I would probably stay at the hotel again.

Good stuff: Staff were very efficient and courteous. You could not fault the plentiful and delicous breakfast served.
Bad stuff: The hotels furnishings needs renewing and modernising
Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: Pleasant hotel with good staff. In need of some general furnishings modernisation and renewing. Extremely good delicous English breakfast served and value for money accommodation. Hotel tucked away in quiet pleasant location, but convenient for easy access to York Centre.

Good stuff: Comfortable, close to interesting part of town, efficient staff and good value.
Bad stuff: Nothing
Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: This hotel suited our needs perfectly - modest cost, but clean, tidy and comfortable. It was conveniently located to both the station and city centre, but in a quiet area. The staff were efficient and helpful, the inclusive breakfast was generous, and as a bonus the restaurant served quality meals at a very realistic price. Being several buildings around a central courtyard, it was much more private than a conventional hotel, though this could possibly be less attractive in bad weather. In brief, we felt very much at home here, and would certainly chose it again.

Good stuff: The staff were friendly and the location was ideal for the city
Bad stuff: It is very dated in terms of the rooms and the appliances
Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: It was a very friendly and plesant hotel but it is in need of updating to the pesent day. The kettle, bathroom and TV were all of the 80's

Good stuff: I loved the large cottage and the beautiful grounds. The bathroom was lovely. It was very large and had an interesting shower and heated towel racks. We loved it. The complimentary breakfast was absolutely fabulous. T
Bad stuff: I didn't understand why I had to leave the key when I left. When I picked it up, I was almost given the wrong key and wasn't asked for identification, so that seems like a flaw in the security. I personally think check out time at 10:30 is very very early. In america check out time is 11:00 or 12:00.

Good stuff: Quiet central location. Efficient and unobtrusive service by all staff. Good breakfast
Bad stuff: Televison was a bit dodgy, small, poor picture. Noe exactly clearvhow to get to carpark rather than the front of the hotel
Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: Exactly how to drive to the car park. When the restuarantw as open and what sort of meals at lunchtime / evenings

Good stuff: Clean, comfortable, and centrally located in York.
Bad stuff: Needed refurbishment/re-painting
Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: This is a decent hotel, with very helpful and friendly staff. The hotel is on a quiet back road, but there is quick and easy access to central York both by car and on foot.

Bad stuff: The bedrooms need refurbishing.
Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: The hotel is not quite as might be expected from the advertising - it is basically of Travelodge standard with a nice-looking bar and restaurant attached (we cannot comment on the food as we did not eat there). The Period house shown in the pictures is there, but we could not see any guest access to it. Perhaps it does have guest rooms in it, but it is not obvious that this is the case. Overall, taking into account that breakfast is included in the price, the cost is about the same as a Travelodge and probably a more convenient and less clinical experience. Its location for seeing the sights of York is good - within easy walking distance of the centre while not too noisy.

Good stuff: The beds were very comfortable - we both slept very well. The gym and the sauna were great - a good way to start the day!
Bad stuff: The bathroom smelled of wee (sorry - urine) and the shower had definitely seen better days (the head was wonky and you paddled).
Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: The service in the breakfast room on both days was not brilliant. There were plenty of staff, but they were poorly managed. We had to wait a long time before being asked for our order, and had to request cutlery. We observed that tables were not cleared promptly. However, the scrambled egg on our first morning was excellent!
Although the housekeeper had removed one of our own towels by mistake, it was tracked down in the laundry room and returned as we left - freshly laundered.Thank you!
