One of the newer hotels in York, the Queens was opened after the turn of the millennium. We are located next to the river Ouse with some lovely river views out of some of our rooms. Very central you will find easy access to the town centre shops and attractions.

Easy to locate as we are on the river and once you are here easy for you to get about. we completed a refurbishment in Jan 2005 thus we hope you will enjoy our look and feel. Comfortable and clean with professionally trained staff to serve your every need.

Being as we are in the centre of this splendid old city car parking is limited. We request that guests book a parking space with us in advance. This service is charged at 10 pounds per nights parking. There is a public car park close by as an alternative if we are full.

Good stuff: good accomodation at a good price being easy walking distance for all tourist attractions.for £5.sterling we were able to upgrade to a rivers view .Our front of house was a charming young lady called Lucy who was so very helpful. After that we found all staff very curteous helpful & smiling. Something lacking these days in a lot of places. We were entertaining a Visitor from Australia who was delighted. We would stay again.

Bad stuff: Lack of daytime facilities.

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: We arrived at lunch time so had to wait a short time for our room. No facilities during the day so we had to go out for refreshments but Hey ! this was just a short walk to endless eating places. The staff in the hotel were great.We would stay here again .

Bad stuff: Very noisy-poor noise reduction, breakfast poor choice

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: This was ideal for me for an overnight stop in York, very well located, a reasonable price with buffet breakfast as well. There is always a place in every town where the price/location/quality graph intercepts, and this was it for me. I don't drive, so no problem about parking, I had a spacious corner double room, with two windows, and views of the river and the Minster. I enjoyed a pint of John Smith's Yorkshire Bitter sitting on the small and uncrowded balcony late in the evening.

Good stuff: The location was excellent. The breakfast was excellent, if we had known it was that good we would have had an evening meal the previous night. The morning receptionist was different and very pleasant.

Bad stuff: No chiller in the room. I stood at the reception while three receptionist were on duty but they took several minutes to acknowlege me or even look at me, i felt as though i was putting them out being there. Under the kettle was dirty. The soap dispenser was broken.

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: Chiller in room, it was very hot and i do not drink hot drinks at all. Location was very good but was not made to feel welcome by the check in receptionist. One suggestion i would make would be for the waitress to bring the hot drinks to the table for breakfast as i thought it was a health and safety issue carrying hot liquid across the dining room. The breakfast was the high point of the visit.

Good stuff: Good location, friendly staff, clean.

Bad stuff: Unable to get a coffee during the day other than kettle in room. On last day returned to hotel after check out & no service available.

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: Due to the flood level there are a number of stairs into the reception area. Although there is a disabled lift available, it is still awkward for non disabled people with cases to reach reception & there does not appear to be any assistance from hotel. If we could not get a coffee at 2:00 p.m. (which is check in time) as only one person was on reception, there cannot be any staff available to help out. Hotel offers good but basic service - people visiting York should be aware that it is difficult to find anywhere to eat by 10:00pm. The city shuts down early if you are not a clubber. for example if you are doing one of the walks or attending a show, it would be advisable to eat first.

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: The hotel is in a great location beside the river. Easy to get to the city centre and all ameneties.Professionally run and maintained to a very good standard. Value for money - excellent.

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: Travelling with young children, a family had also booked room nextdoor and also across from us, Parents stayed in one room and children in opposite room, so they were back and too shouting and knocking on the parents door until 11.30pm then they were doing the same at 7.20am, hard to get my children off to sleep and were woken early which obviously wasn't enjoyable as we visited to relax!! But ease of booking,hotel,staff,food,location,accomodation of a very high standard and will use the hotel again when in York, and have already recommended to family and friends to use the hotel in future.

Good stuff: The accomodation was excellent. The hotel is in a great location with easy access to bus routes and the city. The room was a great size, very clean and great pressure in the shower...which is always a bonus!

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: We love York and like to visit for a few days as often as possible. We often find accomodation in York pricey. When looking for a last minute break, I came accross the hotel whilst browsing on the net. The offer price was very attractive and the location seemed to be ideal. On arrival at the hotel, we were pleasantly suprised. We enjoyed our stay. The room was great. We chose to pay for breakfast which was also great value. We have had a great few days and have already recommended the hotel to a number of friends, which has lead to further bookings.

Good stuff: The location was wonderful. Very central to all the attractions and transport links, yet quiet.

Bad stuff: None. It was excellent. The rooms were lovely and clean and the staff were very helpful and pleasant.

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: I was concerned about booking a hotel which was not recommended by a friend but I need not have worried it was excellent and we have already decided we will go again maybe in the summer. It is clean, central yet quiet, with friendly, helpful staff. We walked from the train station with our bags and walked everywhere to the shops, tourist attractions, restaurants and bars. We were very impressed and would recommend it to anyone!

Good stuff: We found the hotel to be very centrally located and our room was huge with lovely river views (well worth paying for). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - it was brilliant!!

Bad stuff: The entrance is at the side - keep an eye out for it! It would be better if there was a sign 'to reception' outside. Also, minor points but there are no 'spyholes' on the doors which is a bit of a safety risk and also, whilst everything was fine when we were there we werent told when we booked the parking that the car park floods which we should really have been told.

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: We absolutely would go back to this hotel. Excellent location, excellent room size with great bathroom and omcfy bed. Would have liked mroe pillow though! Well worth paying the extra for the river view and parking underneath the hotel (which you need to book in advance) Perfect if youre wanting a relaxing city break.

Good stuff: It was cosy,quiet,comfortable and overlooked the river. We got a low floor, non smoking room as requested.

Bad stuff: We went to get a drink in bar before going out in the evening, but no-one was serving, so we gave up.

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: It was a very enjoyable stay with no hassle. The restaurant for breakfast was very well run and the breakfast was excellent. We did not eat dinner in the hotel so I cannot comment on that. The only gripe was not being able to get a drink at the bar,but to be fare there was no-one else there.

Bad stuff: We had a 3rd floor bedroom very hot

Good stuff: Hotel was in a perfect area to explore York. Was very clean and tidy and the staff were very pleasant..

Bad stuff: THE MENU WAS VERY LIMITED. HAD TO GO ELSEWHERE FOR AN EVENING MEAL..

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: ENJOYED STAY AT YOUR HOTEL. WOULD STAY AGAIN IF EVER RETURNING TO YORK..

Good stuff: Lovely room, wonderful river view, everything worked. Close to reception.

Bad stuff: We really needed food and drink when we arrived, coffee and sandwiches would do) but didn't have time to go elsewhere, (wedding)
