Cote Brasserie York - French Restaurant on Low Petergate

Value For Money Quality French Style Food
Cote restaurants are a chain of Parisian styled eateries that span most of England. They offer a pleasant menu of classic French cuisine using good fresh quality ingredients. Fortunately for us when we discovered this little gem in York, they don't charge the earth. You get good value here, especially with the set menu which offers either 2 or 3 courses. Most of the dishes on the menus you will recognise if you know a little bit about French food. The quality of the produce, how they are cooked and the meal presentation is high.
Good Service, Well Fitted Out and Relaxing
As you enter you are swept away by the decor, transported to Paris. Once in the door you are greeted delightfully with a smile. The incredibly French accented waiter showed us to our table and the menus. He had good knowledge of the dishes. Now one thing that was not to Parisian about this place was, the staff were attentive to you, even if you were speaking English to them!
Our Starters and Mains
My starter was one of my favourites Boudin Noir (black pudding). David ordered an old favourite of his from the days he holidayed regularly on the Riviera, pissaladiere (slow cooked caramelised onions, anchovies and Nicoise olives). There was only one worry. When we ordered 2 whole lobsters, the waiter had to make sure there were 2 available for us with the kitchen staff. Thank goodness there were. A reasonable priced bottle of house white to go with them was also very nice and good value.
Now on this day (18 June) was a big celebration for us. So we were out to enjoy ourselves which always helps an experience along. Yet, I will honestly say that the quality of food, service as well as the ambiance and decor of the place made for a great, if somewhat decadent afternoon meal. We will be going back.
Quite a Find When We Needed a Great Meal
I consider that I keep quite up-to-date with restaurant new in the city of York. But, this one we found just by chance as no one we know had spoken about it. We are so glad we did. It was the perfect afternoon break that we needed. We certainly will be spreading the word for them.
