Picture of Gateway To York

Never has a hotel been so well-named! Located on the outskirts of York, with the city centre a short drive away, we offer the perfect location for business and leisure visitors. The hotel - built in 1990 - offers all the comfort and style with the added benefit of its setting, with 8 acres of landscaped gardens and a private stretch of river for guests to enjoy.

We look forward to welcoming you to The Gateway To York, our privately run and purpose built conference hotel, where your needs are our our number one priority.

As befitting a modern hotel, you'll find the bedrooms are designed with space and light in mind. From the tasteful design of the furnishings, through to the careful use of colour and style, everything is focused on visitor comfort. The rooms are all en suite, of course, the colour TVs also offer satellite channels, and hair dryers and trouser presses are also included.

You'll enjoy meals in our beautifully furnished dining room, with its stylish conservatory. In the morning our classic English breakfast will leave you ready for the day, whilst in the evening the restaurant is a diner's delight. A wide choice of dishes, made with locally sourced fresh produce, are complemented by a well-stocked cellar of fine wines from around the world.

You'll also find our lounge bar to be the perfect place for a pre-dinner drink or post-dinner nightcap.

We also offer first class conference facilities. Our dedicated conference team understand the requirements of business meetings, and you'll find everything you need to make your events a success. Our conference rooms have natural daylight with full blackout facility, ample computer points, and all the extras you need. We can accommodate business meetings of up to 60, and guests can also enjoy the other facilities the hotel has to offer.

Once you're at The Gateway, you're in the perfect location to explore both the city of York, as well as the beautiful countryside that is famous the world over. However, you may find that you don't want to leave the hotel grounds; our 8 acres of beautifully manicured and landscaped gardens lead on to fabulous views of dense woodland, and there's a large ornamental pond, which is the perfect place to relax and let the world go by. We also have our own private stretch of the beautiful river Derwent, where are angling guests can try their hand at a spot of coarse fishing.

Whether on business or pleasure, all our guests will find a warm welcome waiting for them.

Bad stuff: As a 'Superior' room this was most disappointing indeed. The carpet had not been hoovered for a while. The toilet seat was chipped and the bathroom did not feel clean.

Overall: Overall impression of the hotel was disappointing. There were no menus in the room for the in-house Bistro.Corridor carpets were stained and dirty.

Bad stuff: nothing. would have like a evening meal but hotel had no chef due to illness

Overall: would have like to know that hotel had no chef even though bar meals were offered.

Bad stuff: Breakfast was excellent but appeared 'ad-hoc' People who arrived after we sat down received toast whilst ours came halfway through the breakfast. This is not a complaint merely a comment to enable this aspect to be improved. Perhaps how the orders are identified and processed in the kitchen?
