The Old Gray Mare was originally a coaching inn way back in the 16 hundreds. This quaint pub, located 1km North-West of the city walls is still offering rooms for you.
The Mare is located on Clifton Green, 1km to the North-West of Bootham Bar (NW entrance to York city walls) and just a 10 mins walk to the centre of the city. This is the perfect place to stop for those of you who wish to become a real part of York today as the pub is still serving locals ale, just like it always has.
Perfect for young and budget travellers who are here to really enjoy there time. Rooms are simple yet cosy and have all the basic facilities you would expect, along with en-suite bathrooms. They are very good value for money relative to hotels in the centre of the city.
Not forgetting this is a public house and thus there will be people in it revelling until closing time. So the best way to enjoy the place is to join us at the bar.
The pub also has an Indian restaurant in it. So you can if you like spend a night in with the locals, have a curry and a beer afterwards. The perfect English experience!
