Rooms here are lovely and comfortable with wonderful decor. A splendid old house, with all mod-cons, in a good location overlooking the famous racecourse of the Knavesmire where one Richard Turpin was hanged.
Your luxurious rooms here are a true delight. They are nice, spacious and designed to be space conscious as well. They have different styles in the decor some to relax you and some that we think make for a very passionate environment, perhaps for young lovers. There are ensuite bathrooms that are a good size and of course very clean.
The house itself is full of charming history. It is a large building built in the late reign of Queen Victoria. To start with it was built to house the Minister than preached and ran the chapel that was next door. Since then it has become a wonderful luxurious B^B for you to enjoy but is still very much full of character.
We are located just across the road, overlooking the Knavesmire racecourse and 1.6 miles / 2.6 kilometres from the train station. Getting to the racecourse is a matter of walking around the course for about 1.4 miles / 2.25 kilometres to the entrance. This will take you approximately half an hour.
The centre of town is a little further away from us. In total it is about 1.8 miles / 2.9 kilometres and will take you around 40 minutes to walk. This is a quite strait forward walk and very pleasant on a warm summer day. When I say strait forward that is exactly what i mean, which you can see in the detail below. There are also good bus routes with a regular run into the city and back.
To get into the city centre from us you go left / East along Tadcaster Road. This same strait road then turns into Mount Vale, The Mount and then Blossom Street just as you see Micklegate Bar, an entrance of the York City Walls in front of you. Go through Micklegate Bar and carry on strait down the small hill until you get to the river. Cross the bridge and just after you do so the pedestrian district which covers the city centre starts at the junction ahead of you, with the church on the left. From here you are best left to discover all the shops, which are every which way you turn here,
