We're ideally located for visitors arriving by car or public transport. The delights of York are just 10 minutes away by foot, down an idyllic riverside walk into the heart of the City. The hotel itself is situated in one of York's most popular residential areas, and is sited opposite Homested Park, with its beautiful gardens and separate children's play area.

Bad stuff: As a business traveller, breakfast at 8:30 is much too late

Overall: The hotel is very close to one of the main roads in York, the traffic noise is almost continuous. It is impossible to leave the windows open because of the noise, on a hot day this becomes very uncomfortable.

Good stuff: Room spotless,furniture and fittings like new, the general housekeeping excellent, and the welcome genuine.

Bad stuff: Restricted parking. A late arrival or using vehicle during the day might cause problems.

Overall: Not much choice available in the menus for the evening meal, and there was some uncertainty about providing a meal at all on the Saturday evening of our stay, although a perfectly adequate dinner was subsequently served at the time we chose. The breakfasts were of a good standard, as were all the meals we had. The service was efficient and friendly. During our stay we discovered that the present owner had been running the hotel for only five weeks. We're sure that time will rectify whatever small concerns we had.

Overall: Wondered had it been full, if there would be enough car parking space. Otherwise, only good things to say

Good stuff: Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfasts, good size room.

Bad stuff: Bathroom suite was chipped and broken (In awkward place on toilet), room a bit cobwebby. parking a little difficult, sound insulation between rooms poor.

Overall: For a 2 star hotel and the price, we have no complaints, and felt it represented good value for money. The walk time to York town centre might have been a little underestimated!

Bad stuff: the accomodation was fine for a weekend stay wouldnt have liked to be there for a week

Overall: basically the hotel was fine staff very friendly but i found the menu for the evening meal very dated and boring no real imagination and couldnt agree with the discription of real ale served in the bar tetleys smooth flow is not real ale per my husband who is a camra member

Good stuff: Service was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful. Food excellent. Room clean and comfortable.

Bad stuff: Booked double room, but disappointed to find twin beds attached together and not double bed.

Overall: Liked the ability to be able to order from the menu in advance and reserve a table for a set time in the restaurant, as unfortunately the bar where orders for dinner were taken allowed smoking, which even with the air conditioning was still uncomfortable for non smokers. However, were delighted that nobody smoked in the restaurant itself. Would like to have known when booking that although we were booking a double room online, we were actually getting twin beds attached together, which tended to slip apart.
