The Dairy is a top notch &b in a quiet residential area of York. Positioned close to the racecourse and York city walls. Lovingly restored, and offering a cosy and most memorable welcome to all visitors.

The dairy is situated just 300 yards from the city walls, we offer guests quality bed and breakfast accommodation and a chance to savour a piece of York history. Originally this establishment was built as a family home in 1890. The building then became a dairy, selling everything from milk to ice cream, until its conversion more recently in 1978.

The conversion retained many period features which can still be enjoyed by you today. These include the fabulous ceiling roses and cornices, stained and etched glass windows, and cast iron fire grates. The dairy is built round a beautiful flower-filled courtyard which many of the cottage-style rooms look onto.

Each of the bedrooms is individually designed, but with a high level of features, including charming en suite bathrooms, colour TV, CD player and tea and coffee facilities, as well as high quality toiletries. We offer one family room with 1 double and 2 single beds, and also a room with a king size four poster, for the ultimate in romance! All of the rooms available for you are kept really clean and they are very comfortable indeed.

Previous guests have commented, "This is great value for money in the city." and "We are so glad we managed to find you on the Hotels in York ltd web site. This really is a little gem we will remember."

Your friendly, warm, knowledgeable hosts will do their very best to please you. If there is anything you want to know about the city just ask us and we will help you if we can. We want to to really feel like an invited guests when you stay here.

We look forward to welcoming you to our first class accommodation in York, North Yorkshire.

Good stuff: The room was clean and had a big window. The breakfast was good.

Bad stuff: The bed and pillows were horribly uncomfortable. The entire property was small and clostraphobic. Not much service to speak of.

Overall: I would have liked to know that I would be lugging my luggage up 2 flights of stairs that the whole property consisted of 4 bedrooms and a dinning room. There was no lounge to relax in. The room had a 4 poster bed that dominated the entire room and a tiny tv sat at the end on a dresser but the poster ran down the middle of it and made it almost impossible to watch tv in any kind of posiiton from the bed.

Good stuff: Pleasant location with easy access to very historic city.

Bad stuff: The shower was hard to control; breakfast time limited to a short window (8:30 to 9:15 a.m.); check-in not possible between noon & 4 p.m.; check-out time not posted but was earlier than we expected.

Good stuff: Quiet, comfortable, convenient to centre of York, free parking, great breakfasts, plenty of relevant visitor information from owner.

Bad stuff: Nothing!

Overall: Although situated near a busy road junction, our room was located in the pretty courtyard towards the rear of the site and was very quiet. Standard facilities (hair dryer, tea making, TV, radio and CD player) were all provided and functioning. Bathroom was large and excellent. Central heating was controllable by guests. No smoking policy was strict! As a smoker, the courtyard proved a godsend, especially as it's partly covered and rain-drop free. The adjacent on-street parking arrangements were conveniently reserved for guests and therefore always available. Several good restaurants very close and nowhere more than 20 minutes walk away. We enjoyed our stay very much!

Good stuff: Walking distance from central York, tips on local sightseeing, delicious breakfasts.

Bad stuff: Room small, cramped. No space to unpack. No table or shelves to place our belongings.

Overall: The location was convenient and the breakfast was delicious. The local sightseeing tips from the proprietors was much appreciated. However: the room was very small and cramped and lacked any space for unpacking. There was not any shelf, table or flat surface on which to put our things. The only table was cluttered with coffee-preparation items. Getting in and out of the place was cumbersome -- too many doors and steps to unlock and negotiate. Far too expensive... more expensive than a London hotel room that had much more space and included breakfast.
