Located in the centre of the old quarter of York. This is the perfect place to stay of those who wish to see the sights and partake of the fabulous shopping in York city centre.

A superb location in the very centre of what is the old quarter of the city. Staying in this lovely B&B will put you right next to a plethora of lovely unique central boutiques that line the ancient street of Stonegate. It will also put you within a stones throw of the magnificent Gothic York Minster. You could not ask for a better spot to stay.

The rooms and building are very atmospheric. They are spacious and comfortable, yet have loads of original character for you to appreciate. We have tried to keep the decor and furnishings in character with the Georgian building.

There is also the far more personal touch the comes with staying at a bed and breakfast. If you want to pass the time of day with some of the staff and or owner, they will only be to happy to do so. Any information we can offer to help make your stay a more comfortable one will be forthcoming if you ask.

Good stuff: The proprietress remembered me from a single visit that I had made to the hotel's restaurant earlier in the year, which was very encouraging. My single room had been upgraded to a small double at no extra charge, which was a nice surprise. The breakfast was excellent, the staff very friendly and professional and the room spotlessly clean with plenty of fresh towels changed daily. The location is truly excellent, being literally a stone's throw from the Minster, therefore only minutes from anywhere else in the centre of York and an easy walk from the railway station.

Bad stuff: Although the room was facing a street which is not heavily used by vehicles, it was always full of people. Generally, this was no bother except occasionally very late (or rather, early in the morning), with noisy revellers on their way home. The hotel has provided double glazing to counteract this, although in summer windows are generally left open. A pair of ear-plugs is, therefore, a good remedy. The bathroom, while everything was spotlessly clean and functioning, was rather small and cramped.

Overall: Excellent. I intend to stay there again.

Good stuff: excellent position. attentive staff.

Bad stuff: attic room adequate for 2 nights.Bit of a treck to bathroom - but did have loo & basin in room.

Overall: Enjoyable.
