Of course the main site not to miss is the Gothic Cathedral - York Minster is the oldest of its kind in Northern Europe - truly magnificent.

Wander, meander, browse and discover York's many old streets - for shopping Coney, Spurriergate and Parliament Streets. The Shambles is the best preserved medieval street and Grape Street once home of the ladies of the night is now home to exclusive shops and fine restaurants.

Evening entertainment is in abundance - theatres, shows, cinema, really good restaurants and when the city is all lit up it truly is a romantic and magical place to be.

Good stuff: Comfortable bed, clean and well maintained hotel, plenty of parking and quite location apart from comment below.

Bad stuff: Noise via door connecting to next room meant we heard noise from neighbouring room, including early wake up call and TV.

Good stuff: Hotel was very clean and tidy, staff were very helpful and friendly

Bad stuff: Prices for meals were extremely expensive, £9.50 for a burger and chips

Good stuff: Staff very friendly and accommodating and keen to sort out any issues

Bad stuff: The hotel badly needs updating of decoration as it looks quite tired Wireless internet access would be a definite advantage

Overall: The hotel was easy to find and amenities were good. The food served in the restaurant for both dinner and for breakfast was of a high standard. Having requested a smoking room however we were surprised at the high level of smell in the room and the fabric. The smell was so bad that it kept us awake the first night.

Good stuff: Bathroom was good

Bad stuff: Couldn't get a smoking room - no soap in bathroom - dressing gowns were hard

Overall: The stay was spoiled by the fact that my friend could not smoke as we could not get a smoking room. Also I think the films should be provided free.

Good stuff: Quiet location. Lots of parking spaces. Very good buffet breafast

Bad stuff: Room temperature was low: radiators did not seem to give out much heat.

Overall: Good location two miles south of York city, with plenty of parking spaces. Quiet hotel in residential area. Comfortable rooms with TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Good restuarant (open evenings) and bar: particularly good breakfast (served until 11 am at weekends) and free newspaper provided.

Bad stuff: Would have appreciated a snack (biscuits etc.) with tea making facilities.

Overall: The overall impression was good; we enjoyed the breakfast arrangement and food plus the dinner on Thursday evening was of reasonable standard and fair price. Directions to the hotel were good and enabled it to be located easily. The location was also convenient allowing use of the local public transport into York. All in all, this was an enjoyable weekend made better by a nice hotel.

Overall: Good bus service nearby which means you can leave car at hotel.parking in York town centre is limited and expensive.
