The beautiful city of York is a short walk away, and we are ideally located for those who want fast access to major roads, putting the fabulous Yorkshire countryside within easy reach.

The Hollies is as stylish inside as it is outside. Behind this classic Edwardian facade you'll find the highest standards of comfort, hospitality and service.

With just 5 bedrooms available, you can expect a highly personalised degree of service, and we pride ourselves on delivering the extra touches that delight our customers and keep them coming back. There's a free car park, express check out and left luggage facility, and we pride ourselves on being very focused on the needs of our younger guests.

Each bedroom has its own individual style. The Aldwark is designed for families, with double single and foldaway beds, while the Bootham offers a double and single, and is located at the back of the property, for extra peace and quiet. We have the Stonebow and another standard room, both with plenty of space and comfortable double beds. Finally we offer our classic room with an elegant four poster bed, for those romantic breaks.

Every bedroom has a unique character, but all provide the same high standard of accommodation. They are all en suite, with colour TV, radio, tea and coffee facilities, and hair dryers.

Our location provides a high degree of peace and quiet, yet puts the glorious sights of York city centre just a 10 minute walk away down a delightful riverside promenade.

Good stuff: In a good area, very friendly, rooms very clean and comfortable. Breakfast excellent.Nice walk along the river into York.

Overall: Check in time could be a little earlier. Accomodation was clean and well decorated and had everything you would need. Owners very friendly and breakfast was excellent. More information on places to eat close by. Overall had a comfortable and relaxing 2 nights break.

Good stuff: Convenient location. Out of town but an easy walk into the centre. Plenty of buses if required. Range of leaflets and information. Choice of breakfast.

Bad stuff: Personally I found the room too warm even with the windows open. It was quite mild for the time of year and I think it would have been OK with the central heating turned off or just on in the morning.

Overall: I booked this accommodation because it was out of the city centre and had parking. It was easy to find and once parked didn't need to use the car as it was within easy walking of the city centre. I couldn't fault this hotel as it was clean, comfortable and welcoming. Everything was well organised and efficiently run. If you are not used to traffic you may find it a bit noisy at night, especially if the windows are open. It's near a police station and a few emergency vehicles went by.

Good stuff: Friendly staff, good food and nice riverside walk to town centre.

Bad stuff: Early breakfast and late check in.

Overall: We were very pleased with the accommodation and the standard of food at breakfast. The owners were friendly and helpful. The hotel was a twenty minute walk from the town centre but this was along the riverside so was very pleasant.

Overall: We have stayed at the hollies before and will be going back... Its a lovely hotel within easy reach of the City of York just a 20min stroll or a bus stop outside the hotel.The hotel is run by a lovely couple who are friendly and will help you with any queries. The food is lovely and the rooms are spotlessly clean.Overall our stay was perfect, as it was last year too.

Good stuff: it was beautifully decorated and very clean, it was close to the centre of york, within walking distance.

Bad stuff: cant say it would need any improvement

Overall: The Hollies was ideally situated, not too far away from the centre of york, it was in a quite residential estate, we stayed in the Four Poster Room, it was tastefully decorated and very romantic. The breakfast was very good. The owners were very friendly and we would definetley stay here again.

Good stuff: The convenience of the location even though out of the city centre. Bus stop just over the road, or lovely walk along the river to the city. The room was excellent size, along with the bathroom and shower very good size also.

Overall: Both myself and my partner found our stay at the Hollies an excellent way to experience York. It is close to the city and also the race course. The breakfast menu is excellent and really sets you up for the day.

Overall: We stayed unfortunately at the same time as two large families with lots of children and the noise generated effectively ruined our stay. We were kept awake until 1 am and woken up at 0530. I would imagine that it would be a lovely place to stay minus families

Overall: Owner was very approachable, room was clean, everything worked - couldn't really fault it. In the room there was plenty of information on bus times etc into town, although there is a pleasant 20-25 minute walk along the river into town which we much preferred.

Overall: The hotel was easy to find on the A19. The room was excellent obviously recently decorated. The breakfasts were first class. The hosts were very friendly. The walk into York by the river was very nice especially after eating a good breakfast - took about 20 minutes. The bus service was very good if needed. We will definitely return to The Hollies.

Good stuff: The friendliness of the owners. The cleanliness of the whole hotel and the quality of the meals.

Bad stuff: This is in no way a criticism, just a suggestion for future guests. When aware that the guest are from the United States, it would be nice if face clothes are provided. I understand this is not the policy in England, but means a lot to people from the States. Also it would be nice if there were towel racks and hooks in the bathrooms.

Overall: Nothing, everthing was as we expected and it was a great way to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Being from York it was very convenient and we were welcomed like old friends. Sarah and Mark are great hosts and did everything to make our visit memorable. Will definitely stay at The Hollies on our next vist.

Overall: The hotel was very efficient and homely. We walked along the river Ouse to York in the evening and would recommend that to anyone. This was not planned so was a real bonus.

Good stuff: It was very modern and well decorated. Lovely and clean.

Overall: The rooms were beautifully decorated as was the rest of the hotel. It was small and very friendly. Breakfast was hot and there was plenty of it. The only problem we had was that the hotel itself is a good 20-25 minute stroll away from the city, but it is well served by public transport and a taxi is only a fiver. Excellent value for money and highly recommended.
