Just a short walk to the central attractions of York we are situated 400 yards from the ancient and protective walls of our mystical city. We offer a warm, welcoming and comfortable place to stay whilst you visit York and as a family run establishment pay special attention to your needs.

Museums, magic, mystique, theatre, trains, ghosts, dungeons and delights all blend with modern day shopping, lunching and exclusive designer shops in some of the oldest and quaint streets in Europe.

First port of call has to be the largest Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe - York Minster and then on to the Jorvik Viking Centre - warriors, craftsmen and traders all who have made their mark on our city. Dating back to the 10th Century you can almost here the warrior cries! Spirits.........ghost hunting - why not - there are organised ghost hunting tours in this the most haunted city in Europe. If you think you heard something or saw something then why not head over to the Psychic Museum on Stonegate - an in depth look at your intuition with some rather interesting concepts courtesy of Jonathan Cainer the famous astrologer.

York Maze is another mystical sight and visits to the museums of York Dungeon, Castle, Art Gallery, Model Railway and Brewery are all worthwhile. Get out of the brewery in one piece?......then head for a leisurely lunch and sip tea and delight in the river boats and ambiance of this amazing ancient city.

This Guests Rating Bar for 1.14

Rating of 1.14 out of 5  Unique ID (107350161)

Guests Name: Anonymous  Guest was travelling as: Young couple

Good stuff: Was within walking distance of the town centre

Bad stuff: The staff were not expecting us and we had to wait several minutes while a phone call was made. The hotel could not accept credit cards payments and wanted cash - no receipt was provided The so called 'Beautifully decorated en suite room' included dirty windows, pealing paint, cheep and damaged furniture and a broken TV. The Continental breakfast was plonked outside the room consisted of stale croissants without butter, value orange juice and value yogurts - how you are meant to eat this is unclear as no plates or knives or forks etc were provided.

Overall: Don't stay at this B&B. This is the worst B&B we have ever stayed.

Good stuff: We got good references on where to eat, what to see, and how to get there.

Bad stuff: Serve Coffee that is brewed not instant. Serve Breakfast in a dining room area..there was no place to eat in our room

Overall: The room was typical of a bed and breakfast in Europe, small but comfortable. Our staff was very accomodating, and pleasant.

Good stuff: Cleanliness of the room

Bad stuff: Check-in procedures

Overall: The location was a bit farther from the attractions of York than we would have preferred. We found lodging in the old town that were not that much more expensive than that of the Holmlea House.

Good stuff: Well appointed, comfortable room in perfect condition - great value! A favorite on our present trip.

Overall: Holmlea is a convenient, afforable place to stay in York, with wonderfully appointed, upgraded rooms. Breakfast is delivered to the room, so there is no need to be up and about before breakfast! Great shower! Parking will not be adjacent, but it is still quite easily found - not a problem. And since you will not want to use a car in York, you can leave it parked for your stay. Looking forward to returning.
