Our country house hotel in York, is of style and distinction set in 20 acres of beautiful gardens and parkland, and yet just 3 miles from the centre of the city. Built in 1699, the hall has been painstakingly and sympathetically renovated to offer twenty first century levels of style and comfort whilst retaining many original features. When you are here why not try a meal in the delightful Oak Room Restaurant. This will be one of the most memorable dining experiences you can have in York.

We are happy to welcome you to Middlethorpe Hall Hotel in York, a classical style William III country house, beautifully renovated and restored and offering the highest standards for business or leisure guests.

Whether you choose our single rooms - with a double or two single beds - our larger doubles or even one of our deluxe rooms, you'll find a remarkable level of comfort comes as standard. All the rooms are beautifully decorated, and furnished with fine paintings and furnishings representing the historic origins of the hall. However, they are complemented by twenty first century level of equipment, including colour TVs with built in DVD players, two line telephones with ISDN data sockets and voice mail facilities. The rooms are spacious and visitors can choose from staying in the main house, the eighteenth century classical courtyard, or in the adjacent cottage

Comfort and luxury are evident throughout the house, which is full of period antiques and paintings designed to reflect the elegance of the eighteenth century. The oak panelled dining room is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week, and has won a host of accolades for the quality of its food.

Venture into the gardens and savour the parks which have also been restored in the original style. Our visitors enjoy walks around the small lake, through the specimen trees, around the walled garden.

Business visitors can take advantage of 3 private dining rooms, and a board room is available for meetings of up to 50. Both business and leisure visitors can take advantage of the indoor swimming pool and plunge pool, sauna, steam room and gym. A range of health and beauty treatments are also available.

Good stuff: Clean, comfortable room, very quiet

Bad stuff: No teamaking facilities

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: I should have asked specifically for twin beds, as my husband has Alzheimers and was very unsettled, which meant at one stagwe I was trying to sleep on the floor! My son and I very much enjoyed all the facilities of the spa. All staff were very helpful and polite. The room instructions need updating e.g.jeans in diningroom and robes not allowed to be taken to spa - spa staff say the opposite.

Good stuff: the hotel and spa was lovely. The food and service was outstanding. will be recommending to family and friends.

Bad stuff: drinks were exspensive but it was to be exspected.

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: All the staff were lovely and helpful. The food was fantastic, the best i have ever had. The room had a homely feel and had everything you needed. The spa was relaxing and not to busy.If you wish to have treatments you must book in advance as we did not and missed out. Thought when i booked it was abit exspensive but after the stay i think it was value for money. A big thank you to all the staff for making it a wonderful stay.
