The Minster is a splendid 3 star establishment only a short walk away from the middle of the city and the fabulous Gothic cathedral from which we take our name. Easy to find and in the right place for you to base your trip to York.

This hotel was originally 2 Victorian town houses. We have in converting them, tried to keep the original character of the building in tact, while still allowing us to serve you with all of the facilities you would expect. The well trained staff, warm, friendly atmosphere and well equipped rooms will leave you wanting to return like many of our other guests have done over the years. We strive to make sure you stay with us in a happy and comfortable one.

Good stuff: Minster Hotel is in an excellent location, easily walking distance to the train station, the Minster, the Shambles and other sightseeing locations. Our room was comfy, cozy and a good size. The breakfasts were plentiful with lots of options.

Bad stuff: Well, "bad point" is rather strong. The hotel is being refurbished, so the elevator didn't work during our stay. Also, they're re-carpeting and working on other upgrades. But they're very good about minimizing the inconvenience.

Overall: We really loved the hotel and our room. It is a good value for the rate and the staff are really great. The breakfasts are great! We would definitely stay at the Minster Hotel again.

Good stuff: staff were very friendly , the hotel was in need of a little t.l.c in places but other than that the hotel was very clean and comfortable.

Bad stuff: needed a touch up cosmetically.

Good stuff: Location is excellent. Didn't need to move the car from the car park all weekend

Bad stuff: Room was dusty. Bathroom had black mould round bath and on ceiling. Towels were very poor. One day we had 2 hand towels, 1 bath towel and 1 bath mat. One day we had 3 bath mats and 2 hand towels and no bath towels. On our first evening we called into the bar at about 7.30pm for coffees and a brandy to be told the 'boiler' was missing but they could boil a pan of water and make instant coffee. The brandy was half measure because they ran out!!!

Good stuff: Decent sized room.

Bad stuff: Bathroom not clean - there was a vast accumulation of crud behind the radiator. No main light in room. Noisy bed. Poor sound insulation between rooms. Television tiny and incorrectly tuned. Alarm clock unplugged (presumably by cleaner) every day even though there were spare mains sockets and therefore needed to be reset every day - most annoying.

Good stuff: The food and service were very good, hotel was close to city centre and all tourist attractions

Bad stuff: bathroom facilties

Overall: The main areas of the the hotel we could not fault the staff were very helpful,he food was was excellent. the area where the hotel let its self down was the bedroom, we paid £300 for 2 nights in the four poster standard room as it was a special occasion, the bedroom its self needed decorating as the paint work as chipped and looked as though it ahd not been touched for quite a while, the bathroom was the main area that really let the place down it was like something from the seventies the toilet was loose so every time you sat down it moved. i expected a little higher standard for the price i paid

Good stuff: Adequate and clean, reasonable space, good ensuite facilty.

Bad stuff: none that we recognised

Overall: We were visiting relatives for a short stay and the situation of the hotel adjacent to the city centre was just right. The car parking facility was important so that we left the car at the hotel and walked everywhere we wanted to go. Breakfast was good and the service was friendly and quick. We did not dine at the hotel.

Good stuff: Comfortable room. CLose to the city but quiet area. Excellent breakfast.

Overall: The room was very comfortable and warm (it was February!) Easy walking distance to the city centre - about 5 minutes to the Minster, 3 minutes to the Theatre Royal, no more than 10 minutes to Yorvik.Breakfast was excellent and served by polite and friendly staff.

Overall: We thought the location was spot on, and having a good size(& free) car park helped, The overall cleaness of the hotel was good, and found the staff all very friendly, and helpfull.

Good stuff: The room was warm upon arrival,the bed was clean and comfortable.

Bad stuff: The bathroom was dated,with the tiles showing their age,decoration in the main room was old,with mould in the top left corner of the room very evident.There were cobwebs on the ceiling,and dust under the bed and along the skirting boards.

Overall: Bearing in mind this overnight stay in York was a birthday treat for my wife,in hindsight,I would have spent more time searching for alternative hotels, of which there are many, located in and around York itself. The proximity of this hotel to the centre of York,coupled with the secure hotel car park at the rear,scores highly on the convenience scale,a big plus if you want to cram as much sightseeing as possible into your stay. Would I use this hotel again? A lads night out,definately,a special night out with my wife,no,I would opt for paying that little bit extra for a higher standard of decor and those extras that make it special>

Good stuff: comfortable bed and a very clean room

Bad stuff: with breakfast being served from 7:30am to 9:30am we found that when we ate at 8:30 most of the cooked breakfast was cold that was under the heat lights

Overall: it was nice to have a secure car park and the hotel was just a couple of minutes from the city centre staff were very helpful and friendly
