You could not get a better place to see the attraction from than right here. To start there are the magnificent city walls which are only 1 minutes walk away, only 300 feet from us to the South. Then to old keep of York castle, Clifford's Tower is just 350 yards away which is about 5 minutes walk. One minute further, within sight of that is the wonderful Castle Museum as well.

51 is easy to find. We are situated just 4 minutes walk South of the main shopping street in the city centre called Parliament Street. Up to date rooms are spacious and clean.

We are easy to find in the city centre. We are at the top of one of the main shopping streets of York, Piccadilly.

Good stuff: Hotel 53 personal were very accomodating, from getting my request for a cake in our room upon arrival, to getting us in our room earlier that the regular time and other small requests we had during the week. The room was clean and comfortable. Loved having the tea and cookies available in the room. We loved the design of the walk in shower! The beds were wonderful(at least the king bed was!). Nice to have the internet in the room, also.

Bad stuff: We discovered that you had to turn the heat way up to get the room warm. Showers were hit and miss with the hot water. Late night was ususally a good time to get a hot shower, or real early in the am. We noticed the first day we were there that the hotel was very buisy, and that contributed to the low hot water available I am sure. Windows were drafty and let in the street noise easily. You could hear people walking and talking at night, traffic, and in the early morning when trucks were delivering etc.. Not alot of room to unpack and put your clothes, we lived out of our suitcases, literally.

Overall: We enjoyed our stay very much. We like the clean,uncluttered feel of the room. We weren't in the room much during the day, and in the evening it was "cozy" because there wasn't alot of extra room with the sofa bed pulled out. For us that was ok.The staff were all very pleasant and willing to do whatever they could to help make our stay what we had hoped. Thank You Hotel 53!
