Under new management in 2008, Hotel 53 (formally the Quality hotel) is one of the newest and largest in the city. Modern design with up to date amenities at a good price. Literally just inside York's walls, there is only a short walk to any of the attractions in York..

We are easy to find in the city centre. We are at the top of one of the main shopping streets of York, Piccadilly.

Our contemporary style is something many of our guests comment upon. Chique and clean with no clutter around you. What this means for you is more space to relax in.

We have lift access to all of our 6 floors. Perfect for those who don't like stairs.

Our large walk in showers are the perfect start to the day. Once you are ready, off you can go to visit the roman and medieval wonders that await.

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: London Prices, no breakfast included?? Having recently stayed in a London hotel of the same quality the extra £10 in cost got me an evening meal and breakfast inlcuded.

Good stuff: very central

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: The hotel was central and very clean staff were helpful Although we did not eat at the hotel there was plenty of places to eat around about

Good stuff: very comfortable.....room contained everything needed for short stay, except (see below)

Bad stuff: (1)shower only..no option to take a bath (2)insufficicient storage space for smaller items of clothing and luggage

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: I would have liked to have known whether there was car parking available, and if not the nearest and cheapest options. Also there did not seem to be any indication of the distance of the hotel from the city centre amenities.

Good stuff: modern and minimalistic

Bad stuff: the room was small, cramped and not made suitable for a young child, hed to pay for tv and parking was 20.00 just to park the car i couldnt beleive it

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: i would like the priice to come down as although it is modern it was small, facilities wernt good, beds uncomfortable and generally poor for the money, room was far too warm but we couldnt open the window as it was far too noisy and so was the fan the hotel eventually supplied.

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: Clean and modern hotel, lovely shower, however it was over priced and breakfast should have been included..... Definitely not value for money.

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: .I found the whole process of booking efficient and friendly, I will be staying at this hotel the next time I visit York later this year. Very impressive throughout.

Good stuff: Lovely big bed.

Good stuff: Central location,clean, pleasant but v.business like.

Bad stuff: Do not recommend putting a family next door to a 'couple', as sound proofing through interconnecting door was poor(in fact zero!).The children were exhausted from site seeing and fell fast asleep..However we didn't and got to the stage of putting our own telly on to disguise the more than obvious noises from our loving neighbours.I would have felt we needed to change rooms had it not been a one night stay.

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: Good central location, ideal for sight seeing... Modern business like interior...not necessarily designed with children in mind. Clean accomodation,most needs met, whilst there are modern/upto date soft furnishings..some issues like shower drainage clearly need some updating. I would recommend this hotel for couples/business trips stop overs rather than families.Especially where you feel you need to take your children out, later perhaps than you would because the rooms cannot accomodate any 'play' time, before bed.(also not a bath to wind down tired children).

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: This was more of a business hotel, bland, souless. Black silver and chrome, yuk!!

Good stuff: very central, all but one of receptionists were very helpful, very clean

Bad stuff: overpriced breakfast

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: breakfast very overpriced- did not use the hotel for breakfast, particularily as there is a large chain pub/restaurant across the street serving breakfast for up to £7.00 cheaper. In the main the reception staff were very helpful. In general we enjoyed our stay and would use the hotel again

Overall + Stuff we would like to have known: Clean modern hotel close to city centre, Parking across the road charges £10.00 for overnight. Parking in nearby carpark free on Sundays.

Bad stuff: the room was too small, the walls too thin.

Good stuff: View from window,comfortable bed!! and nice bathroom facilities
