This is an enchanting and inviting bed and breakfast hotel. Beautifully designed ensuite rooms which have been fully equipped with just about all current features with more than enough hot water available and during the winter you will appreciate the comforting central heating.

We are situated on a terraced street in the exclusive South Bank area of the city. As the crow flies we are about 0.3 miles to the South of the city walls. To you and I that means a 5 minute walk. A little further will take you into the city centre which is about 0.7 miles or 14 minutes walk to the North-East. Also the hospitality centre at the York Knavesmire Race Course is one mile to the South of us.

Cosy and welcoming are by words at the Romley. You get complimentary tea and coffee trays. Also there is a wonderful friendly bar. Here you can enjoy a relaxing drink or two and chat with your hosts and friends. Be sure on the lookout for the amazing display of miniature clowns here.

York is a beautiful city with an abundance of shopping centrally located for ease. Plenty of restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy leisurely lunches, chatty coffee breaks and simply watch the world go by.

Favoured sites to visit are the number one spot - York Minster - the largest Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe and next on the list has to be the Jorvik Viking Centre displaying the crafts and trades of the viking days. Both of these wonderful attractions are in the city centre and less than a miles walk.

For those looking for entertainment then be sure to visit the Theatre Royal and museum lovers be sure to view the Castle Museum filled with Victorian and Edwardian memorabilia. Train enthusiasts should spend some time in the National Railway Museum.

Walking tours around the city walls will take you on a ghost trail and help you see life from a different perspective.

The ancient and modern world of York will delight you and for those in search of a spot of shopping - head for Coney Street, Spurriergate and Parliament Street for mainstream shops. The Shambles is the best preserved medieval street in Europe.

Good stuff: Friendly welcome and very helpful owner who was always willing to assist

Bad stuff: Small rooms and steep narrow stairs to all rooms would not suit anyone disabled

Overall: Adequate accomodation approx 15 walk from town centre, not really recommended for anyone with walking disabilities.

Good stuff: Proximity to the centre of the City of York

Bad stuff: See below. The English Tourist Board should be informed.

Overall: The room description was inaccurate. We were allocated Room 5 on the top floor of an empty guest house. It was very small and crowded and we were unable to pass each other. There was a double bed, a single bed, a folded put-u-up, a chair, small hanging space and drawers. An en suite with very dirty shower cabinet with black grouting and dirt dropping from the shower head with the water. Strip light above w/h basin not working; botched attempt to repair w/h basin; dangerous glass shelf above w/h basin - you could hit your face/head when washing/brushing teeth. En suite a health & safety hazard.
