Picture of Swallow St George Hotel

Super situation in the heart of Harrogate with easy access to main attractions and sites. A warm welcome from a professional and caring team of staff awaits all our guests. Charming, elegant and luxurious accommodation with wonderful leisure facilities.

For that romantic weekend away or simply to get away from it all you have chosen well with elegance, style and comfort combined with luxury and peace for that tranquil break.

Breakfast in our Swaledale Restaurant and then take a stroll around Montpellier Gardens and take a peek at the shops - beautiful boutiques, fine food stores, antiques, arts, crafts and book stores. Stock up on those special wines and unusual beers.

A leisurely lunch with over 70 restaurants in the centre - so no shortage of choice.

A day trip to discover the heritage sites is highly recommended - Ripon Cathedral, Fountains Abbey, Knaresborough Castle and Spofforth Castle are the main attractions, without forgetting the rugged rock formations of Brimhall Rocks and the hidden caves at How Steam Gorge for the more adventurous.

Parks and gardens to be enjoyed are The Stray with 200 acres of woodland and open space and The Valley Gardens where you can enjoy a game of tennis or a round of mini-golf.

Return and spoil yourself to a spa treatment or a swim in our heated pool followed by sauna and jacuzzi to ease away those aches.

Dine in style or you may fancy venturing in to Harrogate to try a Mongolian dish, American steak or Italian pasta.

Good stuff: The Dinner Bed & Breakfast package was excellent value for money. The decor of the dining rooms and ground floor shared areas was of a very high standard. Staff were curteous and helpful, including the Leisure Club personnel.

Bad stuff: The corridors and rooms were in need of a facelift. The lift was old and far too small. The internal steps between floors were steep in places and slippery under foot, with no contrast edgings. There was a trip hazards present on the 3 steps leading to the corridor where our room was situated which was exacerbated by a non automated doorway at the top of the steps. Elderley or infirm guests would have extreme difficulty.

Good stuff: Good central location, quiet clean hotel with breakfast included, as many hotels now charge extra for this. Decent sized double room. Car parking to hotel, and was easy to park.

Bad stuff: Very unhappy with housekeeping staff - on first day our room was not serviced at all because we were getting ready for family event in early afternoon. Some towels and tea things were left dumped outside the door. We went out at 1.00 - I do not believe housekeeping staff only work in the morning, as I have done the same job in Harrogate hotels, and a full working day is allowed for cleaning rooms. Also on the day of departure we were hassled 3 times before the checkout time of 11.00am by the member of staff allocated to clean our room, and despite a 'do not disturb' sign on our door. This was unacceptable, and more so staying in a hotel whose prices are increased for the bank holiday weekend.

Overall: It was fair - I was also disappointed not to be asked if we had enjoyed our stay etc by the reception staff on check out. This should be standard customer service procedure. I booked this hotel with my fiance who is not from the area, having stayed at the George 10 years ago and thought it was good. I was disappointed this time round, and would have second thoughts about booking again.

Good stuff: comfortable, clean

Bad stuff: The kettle in the room appeared to not work. This was reported to reception and a member of staff checked it and found that it did work on returning to my room I still could not get the kettle to work and at this point I gave up trying and had a glass of water to drink instead of a cup of coffee.

Overall: In general the hotel staff and the standard of the hotel was very good and if I visit Harrogate again I will certainly consider using the hotel again.

Good stuff: It was old fashioned so felt very relaxed

Bad stuff: There were two of us in the room and twice had to ask for additional towels. Also, some of the wallpaper was coming away.

Overall: Everything was good and plenty of choice at breakfast. The toilet broke and was repaired in no time at all. Excellent service from the staff.
