If you are a young backpacker you can enjoy York and still stay within a tight travel budget. There are some good dormitory rooms available for you here. Well situated next to the river in a quiet area out of town.

YHA (Youth Hostel Association) is proud to present this lovely, big house for young people to stay at in the city. Room here are of a good standard and kept clean but, the price is amazingly low. So low in fact, it will be very hard for you to find somewhere of this quality in the city cheaper.

Rooms here are mainly dorms that have bunk beds within. You can choose from all male, mixed male and female or an all female dorm. The bunk beds are best to share with friends you know well. Then you will have a much better idea if you should bring and use earplug to dampen their snoring!

We are in a particularly quiet and scenic position next to the River yet, only 1 mile (about 20 minutes walk) from York Minster. The neighbourhood is called Clifton and the inner ring road which we are off, is a large garden away with hedges to absorb any noise from the road.

Also the riverside walk into the city centre is a lovely one indeed. Again this will take you around 20 minutes on foot. As you stroll down the river take in a bit of nature. As you reach the Museum Gardens there is even more on offer in these fabulous botanical gardens.

We are really easy to find from the train station on foot down the river. Come out of the front of the train station and turn left onto Station Avenue. Pass by the Memorial Gardens on your left and head under the large hole in the city walls. Turn left onto station Road and cross over the River Ouse using Lendal Bridge. Directly the other side of the river, after the bridge, take a sharp left and go down the steep stairs, Next follow the river along Dame Judi Dench Walk. Follow this along passing the Museum Garden on your right hand side.

Continuing along the riverside you will pass under an old steel rusting railway bridge. Now you take a further 0.7 miles walk along the river until you come to the next bridge. Do NOT pass under it. Take the right hand turning up a slope to the main road. As you do so you will see some of our buildings in front of you over the road. If you look to your right you will see the sign to the YHA York and a road crossing. Please use this safely and come on in!

Please note we do not recommend walking down by the river at night. If you arrive late please get a taxi from the station it should cost you under 10 pounds.
