"So what about the convent's history?", I hear you ask. Well, the congregation of Catholic nuns who have resided here was since 1686 was originally founded by one Mary Ward. It has been a girl's boarding school and since then a day school. The nuns here were active in both World Wars. In the First World War European nuns and refugees were allowed to stay here. Tragically in the morning on 29 April 1942 the Baedeker Raid by Nazi Germany during the Second World War saw 5 nuns loose their lives here. However it is still a convent today and nuns still teach here. Many have tried but no one will ever stop that I am sure.
