Ideally situated in a quiet residential area of this ancient city full of Medieval architecture. This highly rated hotel is a great location to stop at when you want the check out the city. The staff here are really helpful and friendly at all times.

The location here is in a quiet village suburb of Fulford. Regular running buses will help you into the city centre and run from just up the road. It will take about 15 minutes to get into the city centre on the bus. Walking will take you about 25 minutes to cover the 1.2 miles to the very central Clifford's Tower, the keep of York Castle. On your way you will pass by and even through the ancient walls of the city which are about 1 mile away.

Rooms here are always kept spotlessly clean. The beds are lovely and will assure you of a great nights rest. The bathrooms and showers are also kept immaculate and will always have hot running water for you to refresh yourself with.

York is home to the largest Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe - York Minster. The Jorvik Viking Centre is a display of wise warriors, craftsmen and traders who were determined to make their mark on these city walls. Visit Clifford Tower and the Castle Museum to complete the history lesson.

In fact we truly believe that the mystical streets and a delightful array of activities here will astound you. Fancy a boat trip> Meander down the river, sit out on the sun deck and sip a cool drink whilst you enjoy the summer season and the scenery of York from a different view point. Museums worth mentioning are the Art Gallery, Brewery, Air Museum, Dungeon, Farming, Richard III and the Castle.

Theatre goers delight in the shows on offer at Joseph Rowntree Theatre and the Grand Opera House. Complete the evening and dine in style in one of the many fine restaurants - try Grape Lane.

Main shopping streets in the centre are Spurriergate, which leads onto Coney Street (1.3 miles or 26 minutes on foot) and Parliament Street (1.2 miles or 25 minutes walking). Once you are in the centre you will be able to traverse all of these on foot with ease. Explore The Shambles - the best preserved medieval street, Petergate and Goodramgate.

Walk the City Walls and do a spot of ghost busting. They are all around the city centre and really are a must see in the city. In fact, it is hard not to see them they are so prominent!

Take a trip out to the surrounding countryside and see how beautiful the Yorkshire Dales are - lots of little villages to be discovered - high tea, leisurely lunches and fabulous photographing landscapes.

Good stuff: ample parking, friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast, very comfortable.

Overall: The buses (42 & 415) run regularly from main street outside of the Hotel into York town center. Parking in main town center is a waste of time & expensive.

Bad stuff: 2 packets of biscuits please in the tea tray as i had to share.

Overall: The accomadation was very clean and comfortable. The staff were always cheerful and always had time for you, but they weren't overbearing just there if they were needed. My husband enjoyed his time in the bar watching the football while i lazed in the room with the TV, good compromise. Breakfast was varied and very good. i would recommend the fresh fruit salad for breakfast it was delicious. before the full english that is - lol
