The Newington Hotel York 147 Mount Vale Online Booking
We are very well placed for the races in the city. The entrance to the racecourse is just over 1/2 a mile away which makes it a short 10 to 15 minutes walk. Come and really enjoy your day out at the Newington.
Rooms here are made cosy with good size beds. They all have their own facilities so you have the privacy you desire as well.
Delight in the lush surroundings, breakfast in style and spoil yourself with a jacuzzi in our delightful accommodation. Early morning walk and then on to the centre of ancient and modern to discover some of the delights on offer in York.
York is home to the largest Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe - the Minster is probably the most visited site, second to that is the Jorvik Viking Centre paying tribute to war lords, craftsmen and traders of a bygone age who put their mark on our fine city.
Protective walls, tours and ghost hunting all form part of the fun and mystery. Boat trips down the river allow you to view the city from a different vantage point - enjoying the summer days, sipping something cool whilst you relax on the sun deck. Evening boat trips make for a romantic setting.
Museums of interest include the Richard III, Art, Rail, Brewery, Dungeon and Castle.
Theatre goers delight at the Grand Opera House and the Theatre Royal.
Main shopping are to be found on Coney street and Parliament street. The Shambles is the best preserved medieval street and you will find exclusive shops and restaurants on Grape Lane. An old row of houses sits on Goodramgate dating back to the 14th century.
Surrounding countryside makes for a pleasant drive out where you can appreciate the Yorkshire Dales in all their splendour.

Rating of 3.29 out of 5 Unique ID (107889727) Bad stuff: A bit dated decor although functional! |

Rating of 3.71 out of 5 Unique ID (107565298) Good stuff: The rooms were very clean and the breakfast the next morning was very nice. The breakfast staff were very friendly. For the location, i thought the price was very reasonable. Bad stuff: The rooms could have done with being updated! The rest of the hotel seemed quite up to date, warm with a nice atmosphere but the rooms felt cold and impersonal. Overall: I was pleased with my stay, it catered for our needs, the location was good, price was right and the rooms were clean! Again the bedrooms need updating to reflect the city we were staying in. |

Rating of 3.71 out of 5 Unique ID (97574348) Overall: Clean hotel with friendly staff, hotel is about a 15 minute walk to the city center. Dissapointed with the parking facilities car park was very small and full. |

Rating of 3.71 out of 5 Unique ID (99366613) Good stuff: The friendliness of the staff and their helpfulness impressed me. In particular our waitress was friendliness itself and gave excellent service without being overly attentive. The evening meal was excellent. Bad stuff: The room was clean but tired, it had seen a lot of mileage and it showed. I thought it expensive for what we got. Overall: We enjoyed the atmosphere created by the staff but thought the room itself expensive, however this may have been a product of a busy time in York. We were surprised by how easy it was to walk into the centre of the city, and enjoyed our stay, but would look for a cheaper room next time. |

Rating of 3.14 out of 5 Unique ID (3304314879) Good stuff: Convenience to city centre Dining room staff were very friendly and efficient Bad stuff: Noise - room was located in main entrance corridor and was vry noisy Room quite cramped and in need of fresh decor. Entrance area smelt of cigarette smoke. Overall: Room not of the standard I would normally expect from a 3* hotel but staff were friendly and efficient and considering cost of room facilities were adequate for purpose. |

Rating of 2.71 out of 5 Unique ID (3304163281) Good stuff: Proximity to centre of York city. Bad stuff: Rooms were very basic, particularly the bathroom. Overall: The accomodation was not worth £95 for a double room. I have stayed in much nicer rooms in York for a cheaper price. |

Rating of 3.29 out of 5 Unique ID (2831686) Good stuff: Our room was quite pleasant. The breakfast was excellent and the sevice was good. The staff were helpful and polite; the duty manager did eventually apologise for the smoking twin room. Bad stuff: The Hotel was in need of a lick of paint and general up-dating. Overall: This Hotel was advertised as three star, which on entry, it clearly was not and was confirmed by the duty manager. I would not have booked it had I known. The twin rooms were disappointing. One smelled badly of cigarettes; the other was very small and the shower did not work-we received a discount for this one. However, in this day, a non-smoking room should not be a request-it is now the accepted-a smoking room should be the request. The breakfast was enjoyable with a good range of product and pleasantly served by the staff. |

Rating of 3.0 out of 5 Unique ID (1876844) Good stuff: Good sized room with 4 poster bed. Convenient for York city centre with a welcoming pub just down the road which served good food and drink at reasonable prices. Breakfast was good. Bad stuff: It could introduce a no smoking policy throughout the hotel. The access/ameneties for the pool could be improved - the changing rooms were in the general toilets across a public corridor in reception area. Dining room and food at dinner needs general improvement. Overall: The dining room is not the intimate and cosy restaurant outlined on the website and brochure. The smell of stale tobacco pervades all the public areas including the 'no smoking' lounge area. I would have liked to have known about the lack of amenity actually around the swimming pool and the fact that the sauna was charged for. This is a two star hotel masquerading as a three star with hard working staff who strive to project the correct image. The chef writes a good menu, but translation to reality leaves a lot to be desired. |

Rating of 2.29 out of 5 Unique ID (2372218) Good stuff: Near to the racecourse & city centre Bad stuff: Housekeeping & maintenance. Overall: Jacuzzi bath not working,Very little toilet paper, had to ask for more. Poor breakfast service with dirty cutlery.Had to ask twice for toast etc, etc, Secure car parking with cameras. Tv not satelite and not correctly tuned to any channel No minibar, but good tea & coffee facilities. |

Rating of 3.71 out of 5 Unique ID (2097143) Good stuff: It was clean. Overall: I don't know where the picture of the hotel was taken from but I didn't see those tree's or grass anywhere, the hotel is on a main road. We stayed in a conservatory room, but the room faced onto the car park. There is also a charge for the sauna. Overall the hotel was clean and the breakfast was ok, but a little to far out of the city wall for the price. Next time I go to York I would stay closer to the centre. |

Rating of 3.57 out of 5 Unique ID (2275679) Good stuff: Ideal for visiting York without being in the hustle and bustle of town Bad stuff: Decor and cleanliness of hotel needs looking at Overall: Booked a room with 4 poster bed room was a lot smaller than anticipated, in my opinion expensive will book a standard double room next time. Drink at the bar were very expensive. But staff were very friendly and helpful. |

Rating of 3.0 out of 5 Unique ID (2291485) Good stuff: The room was quiet despite two hen/stag parties on the same night Bad stuff: A bit of modernisation of fixtures and fittings wouldn't go amiss Overall: If you're staying as a couple- try to get room 217 at the top of the hotel. |
|
Rating of 4.0 out of 5 Unique ID (2385383) Good stuff: Reasonably sized, quiet, despite there being a large party of children in the hotel (appeared to be approx 11-13 year olds)there was no disturbance at all. Bad stuff: None spring to mind other than possibly sliding the newspaper (if ordered) under the door - so unimportant a point - I am struggling! Overall: Only being there for a day its difficult to say. Overall I was happy with the service and would stay there again if I had to re-visit York |

Rating of 2.29 out of 5 Unique ID (2253381) Overall: The hotel rooom was quite poor. There was a big sick stain on the floor. The shower did not work properly. Overall this was very poor value for money. |

|
Rating of 4.29 out of 5 Unique ID (2269369) Good stuff: Location, value for money and excellent service. Bad stuff: Twin room near main door and very noisy at night Overall: The hotel is superbly situated for people who do not want the hussle and bustle of York nightlife, but it has easy travel links into the town centre. Our hotel was everything it said it would be but we where disturbed very late at night by drunken guests returning to the hotel as our room was on the ground floor right next to the front door, but having said that this incident did not spoil our stay and we would use the hotel again. |
