Situated in the centre of York, the Novotel is the perfect place for your holiday visit. On the eastern bank of the river Foss with some of our rooms having lovely views over said.

This is the right place to stay if you are looking for a professionally run hotel close to all that there is to see and do in the city. Our well trained and pleasant staff are here to make you stay a comfortable and memorable one. With a car park between your rooms and the main road you know that you will be able to get a good nights rest. After a pleasant meal in our in house restaurant why not enjoy a stroll down the river to the wonderful millennium bridge and Rountree Park. After you return a quick night cap in the bar to relax before a good nights sleep and up to explore the next day. Guests can also relax with a swim in our pool while you are here.

Bad stuff: blood stains on curtains, cigarette burns in the nets, dubious stains on towels, wine stains on carpet, dusty room, broken bathroom furniture, and and and!

Good stuff: Staff very helpful, good food, good quality, good location, comfortable room.

Overall: Very pleased - my husband was poorly and we did not have a very good time overall but the staff were very helpful and we were glad to be in such a safe and comfortable haven! Many thanks.

Bad stuff: room bland and toilet smelt, we were surprised to hear the rooms had been refurbished in 2006 as they were of a poor standard, the bar area was being redecorated and there was nowhere to sit.

Good stuff: The layout of the room is well thought out, with a number of novel features (e.g. the swing out desk & the sink design) that succeed in their attempt to delight the customer.

Bad stuff: There seems to be an absence of hooks to hang coats/jackets. The bed is also too close to the bathroom.

Overall: The PS2 in reception is a great idea. The seats in the reception area are also well designed and create a relaxed comfy environment. We enjoyed both evening drinks and lunch here. The hotel is excellently located for access to the city, although the hotel access road is easily missed from the main road. A larger sign would be beneficial!

Bad stuff: Some communication issues encountered with the staff, some had suspect English skills. I tried unsuccesfully to get the mini bar re-stocked

Overall: Overall the hotel was good, there was however a really loud disco that it was impossible to sleep through.

Good stuff: Spacious room, clean and tidy, close to the city centre. Friendly helpful staff.

Good stuff: Accomodation was clean and tidy, and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast and the conference room facilities were also very good.

Bad stuff: The room lacked air conditioning.

Overall: A group of nine of us were in York for one night for a business meeting and found the York Novotel to be a very pleasant experience. The accommodation was clean and tidy, breakfast was very good, conference facilities and the refreshments provided were also very good. But the customer service was most impressive, the whole hotel staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Throughly recommended.

Good stuff: The food in the restaurant was excellent and it was not far from the town centre once you got your bearings.

Bad stuff: The carpets were a little grubby in the room but other than that it was okay.

Overall: It was a pleasant weekend, I asked for a room over the river and was given one which was nice, the breakfast was lovely and the room was clean albeit the carpets were a little tatty. The staff were friendly and helpful as were the waitresses in the restaurant. It was a 5-10 minute walk from the town centre.

Good stuff: the staff were very friendly especially to children.

Bad stuff: public bar area is quite small when hotel is busy

Overall: the hotel breakfast buffet is excellent especially if you have children, also the hotel caters very well for families with the rooms being of adequate size even for 2 adults and 2 children.

Good stuff: room large and clean, staff on the desk were friendly and helpful.

Bad stuff: the toilet in the room was separate to the bathroom but a bit like a public toilet!

Overall: In general the hotel was comfortable and clean, the staff at the desk were helpful and friendly. The pool was very small for the size of the hotel. The bedroom toilet was to a different standard to the bathroom, it seemed cold and decorated very much like a public toilet, the bed was large and comfortable but was too close to the wall (about a 6 inch gap). We did not eat in the hotel so cannot comment on those facilities.

Good stuff: It was close to the town centre and easy walking distance to all the city attractions. It had all the basic facilities in the hotel and having a pool made it more attractive for us to stay there, It would benefit from a sauna and steam room too though. Free parking is also very good idea.

Bad stuff: The room itself was looking a bit jaded considering it was supposed to have been refurbished - small things like the sink plug did not work - tea and coffe facilities were not replaced each day. The carpets and walls looked dirty.

Overall: The breakfast service is very good but is very pricey at especially when you pay extra for it on a room that already cost over 100 pounds a night! The staff are welcoming and the facilities were good. made for a pleasant week end break.-
