Snickleways Inn in Goodramgate York
The oldest parts of this charming, timbered pub on Goodramgate date back to
the late 15th and early 16th century. Originally a house, (reputed to have
also been a brothel), it was know to be a pub in 1769 and claims to be the
most haunted pub in York.

The ghost of a small girl has been seen sitting on stairs in the pub, the
daughter of a landlord; she ran outside into the road and was killed by the
brewer's dray. A woman has also been seen, with her cat walking at her feet
and customers have claimed that they have felt the cat rubbing against their
legs.
But the bar staff have the worst of the ghosts to deal with! An elderly
gentleman is said to sit on the barrels in the cellar and throw tools at
certain members of the staff when they go down. It is also said that from
time to time the smell of lavender emanates from the top floor and fills the
whole pub. The practice of placing corpses in the uppermost rooms, and
spreading sweet smelling lavender to reduce the odour of decaying flesh, was
common during times of the plague.
Silva sent us a note about this traditional styled pub in York.
Traditional friendly pub in Goodramgate. Superb atmosphere, fantastic landlord, great hospitality, v. good food & drink (I had the doorstep sandwiches - fresh and delicious)and some of the best company you could wish to spend time with.
In addition I (webmaster) would add this was formally known as the Anglers Arms in York.
The traditional small rooms still have a good appeal and there isn't usually
any blareing music that you cant talk over playing. Bar staff friendly beer is
ok, a nice place for a pint in York in my opinion.
