Ask York Grand Assembly Rooms - York Restaurant Reviews

Two star rating imageKevin says We booked a table at the weekend for a special family meal. When we turned up we waited some time for front of house to seat us. We eventually got the menus. Basically it was very understaffed. Now this might have been excusable in some circumstances. However we got in and just about finished as another booking for 30 people just showed up. So if they were understaffed when we went in I cant imagine how that table got served at all. They really do need to get themselves together here! Food was passable when it artived but nothing to write home about.

Two star rating imagePetrie said Booked table for 9. no table! People waiting before us,waiter suggested we went to the pub across the road for a drink.Absolutely unbelievable. They pack diners in hoping they are quick for more opportunities to fill the place. when I book a table for 9, I expect to eat at 9!

Two star rating imageyorky said: As we were a party of 24 we were given the three course set menu. I think it was very overpriced for what we had! Also, it took ages to get our drinks to us. So we had one round and did'nt bother having any more. We thought some background music would have been nice. I will agree however, it is a stunning building.

Four star rating imageMarc Wilson emailed in to tell us: Dimmed lights, candle lit, fantastic architecture, cushioned seats, polite staff, varied menu, delicious specials, reasonably priced, spacious.

Three star rating imageKevin Ireson says: If you are looking to be impressed or to impress someone, you wont go wrong going here for a meal. The building is fabulous, the service above average, and the cost reasonable. The atmosphere is good too, with a chatty feel to the place on a lunch time. My meal including a starter, main pasta dish and 2 diet cokes came to 11 pounds.

The Assembly Rooms in York

The Assembly Rooms have been used over the years by many people for many different reasons. To head in to this restaurant for is a treat in itself. When you have managed to stop looking around about the place, you should be met by some polite and friendly staff.

Italian food with a bit of Je Ne C'est Qua

I was offered a seat by the very cordial and I must say well trained staff. I ordered, still in awe of my surroundings. The food was cooked and served in reasonable time. Tasty Italian dishes are the mainstay of the menu. There are a good selection of starters and main courses.

The wine menu is a little sparse but reasonable. The pasta dish I had was a vegetarian dish and the flavours were definitely a little special. Taste of the herbs and garlic melting in so nicely with the freshly cook tomato sauce that once it hit the taste buds .. it was hard to stop eating it but I managed once to sip on my beverage.
